Fitness And Food – Let’s Clear Few Myths

Fitness, in addition to regular exercising, can be achieved by eating healthy. For ages there have been notions about various foods, as to what is good or what is bad for health. According to research carried out since then, many items have been categorized, in the unhealthy food categories and therefore, considered a stay away. However, recent studies and careful research have proved many such conceptions, as myths and go a way toward explaining why many barred food products are not unhealthy, as earlier thought.

The Latest Entrants To The Healthy Food Product Category

  • Nuts – Nuts were considered unhealthy, as their consumption increased cholesterol. The latest theory, however, suggests that a small quantity of nuts every day, instead of harmfully affecting, helps deal with risks like heart diseases, diabetes, and cancer. Nuts are rich in vitamin E, which slows down the aging process. So for a young look, help yourself with a few nuts every day.

  • Dark chocolates – We love them for sure, but the fear of harmful effects always manages to leave a guilt pang after consuming them. Well, these fears can now be ignored. The British Medical Journal is to the rescue with its findings, which state that bitter chocolate consumers live a year longer than the non-consumers, all thanks to the flavonoids in chocolates that help live longer. Moreover, chocolates help pep up the mood and thus enjoy life better, so why think more? Simply relish the favorite dark chocolate.

  • Coffee – Despite being addictive, coffee has many positives that easily out weigh the negatives of consuming it. Coffee decreases the chances of kidney stones and type 2 diabetes and gallstones. Further, the caffeine addiction, considered as harmful till now, is being labeled as an antidepressant, that lowers suicide rate by almost 50%.

  • Tea – like coffee, tea too till now was considered as quite harmful. This beverage, however, again has positives to outweigh the negatives. Tea has a strong antioxidant known as Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCC). It helps by protecting against cancers of the stomach, breast, bladder, and lungs.

  • Frozen fruits and vegetables – research has indicated that frozen fruits and vegetables are as good or rather better than fresh fruits and vegetables. The secret is in the transportation style. The so-called fresh fruits reach consumers only after 3 – 4 days and during this duration they loose 10 – 50% of their nutrients, which are preserved in case of frozen products.

The list further goes on to add ketchup, wine, butter and many more products. However, such findings only seem to shake up the already set beliefs, thus ending up in a more confused state.
